Marrakech 2022

From October 17th to 23rd 2022, we embarked on an exciting new adventure as we launched our very first Rhapsody Retreat in the magical city of Marrakech. With a group of 14 wonderful participants—mostly familiar faces from our choirs here in the UK—we set out to road test our vision: a retreat combining singing, Pilates, and cultural exploration in one unforgettable experience.

Marrakech 2023

Following the huge success of our debut retreat in 2022, we were thrilled to return to Marrakech for our second Rhapsody Retreat, this time from January 8th to 14th, 2024. After listening to feedback and speaking with our community, it became clear that January was an ideal time for many of our singers to escape the grey of a UK winter and start the new year with something truly uplifting—so we made the shift, and what a difference it made!

Marrakech 2025

From January 7th to 13th, 2025, our largest group of singers yet came together for another unforgettable week in the heart of Marrakech with Rhapsody Retreats. We returned once again to the sumptuous surroundings of Riad Star, once the home of Jazz Age icon Josephine Baker. Due to our increased numbers we were so excited to expand to a second riad just a few minutes walk away, Riad Spice, once home to 17 generations of the same family and equally enchanting.

Our base for the week was the stunning Riad Star, the former home of Jazz Age icon Josephine Baker. The warm and intimate setting provided the perfect environment to bring our pilot retreat to life. Each morning began with gentle and energising Pilates sessions with Amanda, setting a peaceful tone for the day ahead. This was followed by uplifting singing workshops on the rooftop with Charlotte and Charles, where we explored repertoire from around the world and created harmonies under the Moroccan sun.

One part of the retreat that most exceeded our expectations was our concert at the Fondation Dar Bellarj. Initially planned as simply an informal sharing with whomever happened to wander into the beautiful courtyard while we sang, it grew into the most incredible collaboration with the resident group of singers there, the Gifted Mothers, in a packed-out concert where we sang our songs and they responded with their own set of songs. We even performed a song together we had taught them during our rehearsal in the afternoon, much to the delight of a huge crowd crammed into every corner of the venue. It was a real moment of connection, celebration, and shared joy!

The response from our founding group was overwhelmingly positive, so much so that we returned home affirmed in our belief that this special blend of singing and self-care, set against the backdrop of an extraordinary city, truly has something powerful to offer.

We’re so grateful to our first group for joining us on this journey—and for helping shape the future of Rhapsody Retreats.

Our home was once again the glorious Riad Star, with its tranquil charm, rich history, and warm, attentive team. With our group this time, we focused on deepening the experience: more time to reflect, more meaningful musical connection, and more space to relax and restore.

Each morning began with revitalising Pilates sessions with Amanda, grounding both body and mind, followed by inspiring rooftop singing workshops led by Charlotte and Charles. Our repertoire ranged from the joyful and rhythmic to the rich and contemplative, drawing from musical traditions around the world.

The week’s highlight once again came in the form of our collaboration with the incredible Gifted Mothers, resident singers at Fondation Dar Bellarj, bringing us together in song, story, and spirit. This time, we were honoured to welcome the His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr Simon Martin CMG and following the concert hosted a Moroccan and English afternoon tea, much to the delight of our audience. Charlotte and Charles were even interviewed for Moroccan TV!

Yet again, singing to—and with—each other was a powerful expression of community, connection, and celebration.

We returned home refreshed and reaffirmed in our mission: to offer a retreat that nurtures creativity, well-being, and cultural connection through music and movement.

Thank you to our brilliant 2024 group for helping us begin the year in such a magical way.

Our days began with grounding and energising Pilates sessions at Riad Spice with Amanda, setting the tone for days full of creativity and connection. Morning singing sessions on the roof of Riad Star featured repertoire from around the world, with wonderful melodies and beautiful harmonies. Prior to our concert, we joined together with the Gifted Mothers for a workshop exchanging songs, and then performed to each other and together, entertaining our audience and anyone lucky enough to walk in off the street!

All the hallmarks of a Rhapsody Retreat were there, from luxury 5* accommodation, to Moroccan breakfasts, sunset drinks, rooftop feasts, discovery of souks, gardens, and hidden gems of magical Marrakech, hammam spa treatments, and so much more.

Our participants left talking about transformative and unifying power of singing, increased dramatically increased feelings of well-being and the joy of cultural exchange.

We can’t wait to welcome you to our next Rhapsody Retreat. To register interest for future events, or to secure your place, email us at rhapsodysinging@gmail.com.
